Hi, I’m Robin, a visual artist based in Berlin.

ABOUT

Robin van Halteren is a Dutch visual artist based in Berlin, Germany. Since age fifteen, Robin has traveled and lived in many places, including New York, Paris, London, and Milan. In her creative practice and research, she is driven by questions of identity, womanhood, and belonging.

Her works are inspired and informed by her diverse background, which includes over 12 years of experience as a fashion model and an academic background in gender studies, the philosophy of technology and media, and sociology. Through her art, she seeks to challenge conventional norms, spark dialogue, and foster a sense of inclusivity and acceptance. Currently, Robin is pursuing a master's degree in Gender Studies - Intersectionality and Change—to expand her knowledge on topics of womanhood and belonging.

Sexuality

Her most recent works explore sexuality, especially female sexuality, and how it has often been portrayed for and by the male gaze. To go against this, she aims to portray the softness and sensuality that comes with the relationship between women. Drawing inspiration from her master's degree in Gender Studies – Intersectionality and Change, she portrays her subjects in a genderfluid way to play with and challenge gender norms and oppressive power dynamics. Through her art, she seeks to challenge conventional norms, spark dialogue, and foster a sense of inclusivity and acceptance.

Belonging

The new theme Robin is exploring in her work is that of belonging. Returning to her roots and exploring what sense of belonging remained after being away and taking such a different path from most of her family who remained.
